Dental Anxiety Resources - Introduction

Introduction

This website offers a collection of dental treatment resources specifically designed for individuals who feel anxious about visiting the dentist and undergoing dental procedures. Dental phobia is a common issue, affecting many people, and can manifest as anything from mild nervousness to intense fear that makes attending appointments challenging or even impossible. This resource is grounded in the principles of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), an effective approach that assists individuals in gradually overcoming their fears and building confidence in situations they find difficult.

What this website helps with

Dental anxiety is often linked to two main experiences: feeling out of control and difficulty trusting the situation. Many people feel uncomfortable lying back in a dental chair during dental treatment, unsure of what will happen next or when things will occur. Additionally, some individuals worry that they will not be listened to during their visit, leading to concerns that something may happen without warning. To help address these feelings, this website offers cognitive behavioural therapy techniques along with valuable dental treatment resources in a structured and gradual way.

How this approach works

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) works through two main processes: 1. Understanding thoughts and fears We help you identify the thoughts that contribute to dental phobia, allowing you to examine them in a more balanced way over time. 2. Gradual exposure and practice We break visits to dental treatment resources down into small, manageable steps. You can progress through each step at your own pace until it feels more familiar and less overwhelming. You will notice this approach utilized throughout the various sections of this website.

Your Journey

The videos below feature patients sharing their experiences with Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for dental phobia and the insights they gained from the dental treatment resources provided throughout the process.
